The Real Diet for Inflammatory Bowel Conditions
The #1 thing that you need to know is that you cannot eat your way into or out of any inflammatory bowel condition. It’s not about food. You could eat the worst possible diet and it would not give you IBS. The same can be said about eating only organic food — that will not heal your Colitis or Crohn’s.
But YES, eating a certain way can make your life less miserable until you get this problem fixed.
It is very, very simple. Just 2 things you need to do.
The 1st rule of eating when you have an IBD is to eat a low fiber diet. This means no raw fruit, no raw vegs, no nuts, no seeds and no corn. Eating this way is temporary and doing just this can reduce your symptoms by 50%. But don’t fool yourself by thinking that you are healed. You aren’t. You just are not aggravating the source of the symptoms as much.
The 2nd rule is to temporarily avoid any other foods that you are absolutely sure aggravate your problems. I emphasize this because almost all of you are juggling foods based on what you have seen online or what a friend has told you worked for them. That is just theory. The only thing that matters is how your body reacts to any foods. Otherwise you are unnecessarily denying yourself foods that you could be enjoying. Other than the fibrous foods the most common to cause problems are dairy, wheat and soy. This is because they are complex foods and require more stomach acids to digest. One of the secrets of treating IBD is knowing that in addition to fiber aggravating the bowel tissue it is your acids that actually eat-erode the bowel wall.
That’s it. There is no more to it. The real diet for inflammatory bowel conditions is not what to eat but is what not to eat and this is temporary.
Remember that it is not really about food – you cannot eat your way into or out of IBD. But you can make it a more comfortable ride.
Everything You Think You Know About Your Gastrointestinal Tract Is Wrong
You know almost nothing about it because until the second half of the last century you didn’t need to as it and you used to be self sufficient. That has changed.
Nothing has changed in the last 50 years of inflammatory bowel disease treatment.
There is no effective medical treatment for any IBD.
Yes they do have new drugs and fancy names for GI surgeries, ‘J-pouch’ for one. They also have new ‘appliances’ as they call them for you to eliminate into.
Inflammatory Bowel Conditions are manmade injuries not diseases. There is no valid list of different gastrointestinal ‘diseases.’
If I had Colitis or Crohn’s Diverticulitis I would be grateful for what was available and would be the first in line, but I would also be looking for alternatives. I’d also be a real pain in the neck and ask my doctor a lot of questions.
Things do evolve and sometimes the effective innovations come from somewhere other than where you are looking.
Let’s do our ‘google it test.’ Go find me anything from anywhere, any source of any kind that will tell you that they have proven that inflammatory bowel conditions are any type of auto-immune diseases. They don’t exist and they never will. Most of what you will find will state this and that they are working by theory only.
There is a new, valid, and effective model for what these conditions are and how to treat them.
Your GI tract is just one thing. It is one long muscle stretched into a bunch of different shapes given names such as esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, colon, and rectum. Think of the person at the circus who makes the animals out of balloons.
It is made of skin, fat, and muscle just like your bicep or your thigh. Just like these they can suffer injury.
If I cut my finger, can it be healed? What is a finger made of? A colon and a finger are made of the same thing–skin, fat and muscle, and the healing process is the same.
There is really just one injury and it starts with penetration of / a cut to the skin of the bowel.
Left unchecked this penetration keeps going deeper until it hits nerve tissue and blood vessels. The deeper the penetration the more severe the symptoms.
This is commensurate with the length of time one goes without the proper care. If you do not receive the proper care you will never recover. Have you recovered? What kind of care have you received?
There is just one inflammatory bowel condition. That condition is irritable bowel syndrome. Everything else – Colitis, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Diverticulitis, are nothing other than a more severe version of IBS.
This is similar to 1st-2nd-3rd degree burns–the same skin-just more severe manifestations of the same condition.
There is only one starting point for you to heal yourself of any of these supposed inflammatory bowel ‘diseases.’
Go back to when you 1st started getting the symptoms and figure out what happened just before that. All I did was to reverse engineer it.
Signs of Crohn’s Disease
Just to clarify the use of symptoms to diagnose inflammatory bowel conditions. You know that you have passed from Ulcerative Colitis into Crohn’s when in addition to urgent diarrhea and blood in your stool- you find mucus in your stool. The mucus represents your body’s last ditch effort to protect you from your stomach acids devouring your intestines/colon. This means you are loosing the battle fast. Next stop...surgery. Don’t fiddle around, you gotta get this fixed!
Crohn’s Disease
I want to emphasize that Crohn’s is not a disease and neither are any of the other supposed inflammatory bowel diseases.
They are manmade conditions. We have done this to ourselves. The supposition is that these are auto-immune diseases where the immune system for some unknown reason attacks our GI tract. Why would it do that? This is nothing other than an unproven theory. Once you receive that diagnosis we get directed down the wrong road of immuno-suppressive meds. Does that sound right to you?
Your health is your responsibility. You need to become an advocate for yourself. Do your homework. Get properly informed. Look at alternatives. Play a role in the decision making process. There is a Crohn’s Disease cure. It is incumbent upon you to find it.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
This is one strange condition. It is hard to pin down if it is even legit. It is definitely not an inflammatory bowel condition such as IBS, colitis or Crohn’s. It has a zillion symptoms attributed to it. It has the largest number of hits on google for any of the gastrointestinal problems. Apparently everyone is looking for it.
One of the most common side effects that leaky gut is blamed for is food allergies. This seems to be linked somehow to the issues of gluten and lactose intolerances. Somehow these are all supposed to be linked.
The most prominent concept is that one has large holes in their stomach and undigested food particles pass through and go directly into the blood stream and then the immune system freaks out thinking they are some type of pathogenic enemy and triggers all kinds of immune responses such as rashes-headaches and sneezing. These are just a few of the long list.
How did those holes supposedly get there? One theory is that there was a chronic yeast infection that spread all over the GI tract and with it’s roots burrowed holes in the stomach or small intestine.
If I were to give my 2 cents worth it would be this—through a prior use of antibiotics the mucosal lining that protects the stomach wall is destroyed leaving it exposed to our harsh digestive enzymes that eat holes in it.
Ultimately there are too many questions-contingencies and unknowns for me to be certain what exactly leaky gut is–or if it even is -but then again it must be—because everyone keeps telling me they have it. Maybe if there were more of it going around I would recognize it when I saw it.
