State-of-the-Art Braces to Protect Those Valuable Knees
For someone who has dealt with knee injuries for many years, my first knee surgery was at 14 years old from a football injury, the Mobius X8 knee braces have been a very pleasant surprise. Most knee braces have traditionally had issues with proper fit because no two legs are the same, not yours, not mine. Since everyone has different shapes and sizes of legs the process of making a knee brace that fits a range of leg sizes is a challenge. Mobius has stepped up and met that challenge with a combination of clever design, innovative technology and a bevy of cutting edge materials. The key to the Mobius braces, for both comfort and safety, is what they call the Continuous Cable Routing System or CCRS that provides a single cable connecting the moving parts of the brace and surrounds the knee with an unparalleled level of protection and comfort. The CCRS reinforces and supports the knee with a unique routing design and the help of a specially designed Tendon Back Plate made of a strong yet flexible material known as Kraton.
The CCRS itself is made from yet another space-age material, a special fiber borrowed from military and aerospace applications. In fact this Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Fiber is now being used to replace Kevlar in many products due to its ability to bend and flex while retaining high tensile strength and abrasion resistance. In fact, this material is so strong and durable it is the bearing compound of choice for total joint implants.
In addition to the CCRS the braces feature injected molded shells made of 20% Glass Filled Nylon that are designed to allow the shells to flex slightly where necessary in order to form a more snug fit to the knee. This technology combines with the Mobius Patellar Shell Pads and the Complete Pad Fit Kits available from Mobius that contain a selection of pads and straps of different thicknesses and lengths respectively to create a new level of fit, comfort and adjustability. The pads themselves are made from a closed cell ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) foam) again designed to provide both comfort and protection. This combination allows you to custom fit the braces to achieve a snug and confidence inspiring fit with none of the discomfort or slippage you find with many braces, even after a long day in the saddle.
The high-tech features don’t stop there as all of the moving parts on the braces from the dial and dial fastener to the extension stops and the hinges are all made of Precision CNC forged 6061 T-6 Aluminum for both lightweight and strength. Even the straps are high-tech and utilize a special compound know as Thermo Plastic Rubber to help ensure and maintain a proper fit as you move around on the motorcycle. Finally, to be sure your knees don’t over-extend the extension stops on the braces are adjustable from the stock 0 degrees up to 12 degrees.
At Now for the real test, how do they feel. Simply put these are some of the most comfortable knees braces I have ever worn and trust me I have tried them all since I bought my first pair of knee braces way back in 1986. Now after a total of four knee surgeries, two on each knee, protecting my knees has become a major priority. I am looking forward to putting lots of miles on these braces and see if they hold up and perform well long term. I have little doubt they will hold up nicely.
