Bring Your Phone Safely Along For The Ride
Every once in a while a product hits my desk that really impresses me. Such is the case with the Out Front Bike Mount and Everyday Phone Case from Peak Design.
To start with the sleek slim design of the Out Front unit is beautiful to look at with a simple clean form factor machined from ultralight anodized aluminum. The clever but rugged design features a very strong and secure magnetic/mechanical mounting system called ‘Slimlink’ that attaches the phone quickly and securely to the mount. Despite being a rock solid mount removing the phone requires only a simple click of the release latch and it comes right off.
The versatile mount can be oriented on the handlebars in a variety of ways, it can sit above, below or in front of the handlebars and can be easily and quickly adjusted to the optimal viewing angle. The mount comes with a variety of sizing collars so it can be sized to fit virtually any bike or handlebar with the exception of 35mm bars, tapered bars or non-round bars. Mounting the unit was a breeze with only a single set screw to tighten with the included Allen wrench. A handy thumbscrew is also included to enable quick on the go adjustments.
The compatible Peak Designs Everyday Phone Case (or a universal adapter) is required to use the Out Front Bike Mount with the proprietary Slimlink mounting system. The case is available for iPhone, Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones and can also be adapted to any phone with the optional Universal Adapter. The Slimlink technology can also be extended to popular ball mount systems like RAM Mount with the optional Ball Mount Adapter. The Peak Designs case is MagSafe compatible and features a slim sleek design that both protects the phone and allows it to connect seamlessly to the entire line of the Peak Designs Mobile Ecosystem products. Only 2.4mm thick the case features a rubberized bumper and a stylish nylon canvas shell and works so well when not on the bike it has quickly become my everyday phone case.
A variety of accessories are available for the Slimlink system including a GoPro mount, a mount for attaching a bicycle headlight and a very slick mini tripod unit.
After using the Out Front Bike Mount and Phone Case from Peak Designs for a month I have to admit I have zero complaints, The mounting set-up has proven to be solid and kept my phone securely in place on even rough mountain bike trails. It has been the best phone mounting system I have used so far and the bar has been set very high indeed for the competition.
