We Needed a Custom Mount So We Built One
The GoPro action sports camera changed the game when it comes to capturing exciting POV action on anything from surfboards to motorcycles or even a POV from somewhere on your body.
The GoPro system provides a wide variety of mounts and ways to secure your camera to everything from vehicles to sporting equipment using suction cups, clamps and adhesive mounts. We are big fans of the GoPro camera and the GoPro system works exceptionally well in a wide variety of conditions. However occasionally we have had issues with mounts and cameras shaking loose a bit after a long session of particularly hard off-road use.
The problem reared its ugly head again recently when we were doing an extended test of the Kawasaki Teryx UTV lineup. After the first day we went back to the shop when one of the cameras loosened and caused us to re-shoot some footage so we decided to put together a simple but effective solution. We mated a Cardellini mini-clamp, a Manfrotto 494 ball head and a Niewalda aluminum tripod mount adapter for a GoPro camera. We mounted it to the roll bar of the Teryx and problem solved. The result was a mount that is much more stable long term and holds it position better than the plastic ones that tend to loosen a bit over time. We used the new mount for a week and never had any problems with vibration or loosening.
